‘This is not my mindset’ - Morocco coach claims he is not worried about his job, issues warning to Super Eagles
The Atlas Lions are set to face the Super Eagles on Wednesday in what is widely considered a potential final before the final.
Both teams have been standout performers in the tournament, and many believe the winner of this match will go on to lift the trophy.
The stakes are incredibly high for both nations as they prepare to battle it out at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium.
What Regragui said
Given this pressure, speculation has arisen about Regragui's future, as he has yet to win any silverware since taking charge in 2022. However, the Moroccan coach dismissed any concerns about his position.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Regragui emphasised that his focus remains solely on his team and their performance.
"Not just me, every coach that has a job has to prepare in case he is sacked. But for me, this is not my mindset, never," Regragui stated.
"I'm here to make the best squad on the pitch, to help my players, and to do the best to make my country and the fans happy.
“If I started the job with the mindset to be sacked, I wouldn't even do the job. So I'm not afraid about getting sacked."
Morocco are chasing their first AFCON title since their lone victory in 1976. The team is also under immense pressure to live up to the high expectations set by their historic run to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinals.
For Nigeria, the match represents a chance for redemption. The current squad is eager to win over fans after years of underperformance, including the painful failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
With both sides determined to give their all, the semifinal promises to be a compelling and hard-fought encounter.
