Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has left the door open for Joao Cancelo to revive his career at the club, revealing there have been no transfer enquiries for the Portuguese defender.
Cancelo, 30, spent last season on loan at Barcelona and Bayern Munich after falling out of favor at City, despite signing a new contract until 2027 just months prior.
With Barcelona no longer interested in signing him, Guardiola may be forced to reintegrate Cancelo into the team.
Guardiola opens door for Cancelo comeback
"He's training with us," Guardiola said. "We will see. Maybe he will stay, maybe he will go on loan. I don't know yet."
When asked about potential transfer enquiries, Guardiola replied, "No." He emphasized that Cancelo's future is uncertain, saying, "About what's going to happen, it depends on his agents and the club. In the end, if he has to stay, we will treat him like all the other players, with respect, and try to take the best from the huge qualities he has."
Cancelo has a contract until 2027 and a £60m purchase price in 2019, Guardiola will need to decide how to utilize Cancelo's skills or find a suitable destination for the defender.
