‘That was for her today’ - Declan Rice reveals the story behind his celebration against Burnley
The Gunners continued their Premier League title charge with a 2-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Rice scored Arsenal's second goal at Turf Moor with a powerful header in the 35th minute after Victor Gyokeres opened the scoring.
Following the goal, the England international knelt and pointed to the sky in a heartfelt gesture dedicated to his late aunt, Bev.
Rice reveals reason for celebration
The Arsenal star revealed that his celebration was a tribute to a beloved family member who recently passed away.
Speaking after the match, Rice explained the significance of the moment, highlighting his aunt's unwavering support throughout his career.
"My auntie passed away before the Fulham game. I loved her to death," Rice said. "She travelled everywhere to watch me with my mum. I know she's watching down, so that was for her today."
The Fulham match, which Arsenal won 1-0 on October 18, indicates his aunt passed away just over two weeks ago.
Rice also took to Instagram to express his feelings, posting a picture of them together at the Emirates Stadium.
"That was for you today Bev, I know you are looking down on me! Love you forever," he wrote in the caption, accompanied by a heart emoji.
The win against Burnley lifts Arsenal to 25 points from 10 Premier League matches and marks their ninth consecutive victory across all competitions.
Their next challenge is a Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague on Tuesday, where they will aim for a tenth straight win.
