However, he quickly proved his mettle by leading the team to a remarkable 10th WAFCON title in Morocco.
His success was further recognised on the global stage with a historic nomination for the 2025 Ballon d'Or Women's Team Coach of the Year award.
The Super Falcons, the defending champions, are scheduled to begin their WAFCON 2026 qualification campaign in October with a two-legged tie against the Benin Republic.
The first leg will be played in Benin, with the return leg to be hosted in Nigeria.
