Their surprising dominance in Group A, highlighted by a stunning 4-0 victory over Cote d’Ivoire, has caught attention.

Equatorial Guinea's Remarkable Rise

Their prowess on the field has been a talking point of the tournament, marking them as a team to watch out for in the upcoming stages.

Super Eagles' Challenging Journey

Nigeria, led by coach Jose Peseiro, had a rougher ride in the group stages. The Super Eagles, expected to top the group, faced a setback when they could only muster a 1-1 draw against the rising stars of Equatorial Guinea.

Despite creating multiple goalscoring opportunities, Nigeria struggled to find the back of the net, highlighting their need for improvement as they progressed in the tournament.

Kenneth Omeruo, a key defender for the Super Eagles and a veteran of the 2013 AFCON-winning squad, expressed his astonishment at Equatorial Guinea's performance.

"Yeah, I am (surprised about how Equatorial Guinea have played). I won’t lie," Omeruo said, per Soccernet.

He acknowledged the efforts and the fighting spirit of the Equatoguinean team, congratulating them on their success.

Omeruo, stepping in as captain in the absence of regular leaders Ahmed Musa and William Troost-Ekong, led Nigeria to a crucial victory against Guinea-Bissau.

The match, decided by an own goal from Opa Sangante, secured Nigeria's place in the last 16. The Super Eagles now await their next challenge, which could be against any of the formidable teams such as Senegal, Guinea, or Cameroon.
