Herve Renard’s France squad is gearing up for the Summer Games, with their first fixtures scheduled since the Olympic draw announcement, but the French manager is already looking beyond the teams outing in Paris. France is set to host Ireland on April 5th and then travel to face Sweden on the 9th as they kick off a challenging Euro qualification campaign.
Renard to Depart After Olympics
Despite the upcoming challenges, much of the focus in the buildup to these matches has been on Herve Renard's announcement regarding his departure from the national setup after the Olympics. Renard, the former Saudi Arabia manager, confirmed his decision in an interview with Le Figaro, stating his intent to return to men’s football at the end of his contract.
Renard emphasized that his decision to leave was communicated to the French Football Federation in January and assured that it would not affect the team's focus.
Looking Ahead to 2026
He reiterated his desire to leave at the end of the Olympic games, stating, “It had to be done at some point, but that doesn’t call anything into question. With my staff, we are having a lot of fun, we can’t wait to arrive at the start of the course on Monday.
“It’s a difficult job. If I had to be brief, I have in the back of my mind the 2026 World Cup in men’s football, I hope that it will be my third World Cup at the head of a men’s team. These are my personal motivations.”
Renard’s aspirations for the 2026 World Cup serve as a personal motivation amidst the current transition period.
