Super Eagles AFCON hero Moffi on target for Eaglets but Toulouse refuse to lose

Nigeria Super Eagles Terem Moffi returned amongst the goals, but it was not enough to stop Toulouse in Ligue 1.

Super Eagles' AFCON hero Terem Moffi broke his seven-match goal drought, but it was ultimately not enough for the Eaglets as Toulouse stood firm to claim victory.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Moffi’s early goal proved not to be enough as Toulouse sealed a remarkable comeback 2-1 win at home on Sunday afternoon.

Moffi, who helped Nigeria overcome rivals South Africa in the AFCON 2023, finally found the back of the net after a lengthy dry spell, reminding fans of his scoring prowess.

His last goal for the club and Super Eagles dated back to a brace against Lens on December 20, 2023, just before he reported for AFCON duty.

The goal against Toulouse marked his seventh of the season, further solidifying his impact in Ligue 1. Additionally, Moffi has contributed two assists to his name, showcasing his versatility on the field.

The 24-year-old striker, who has featured in 19 games this season, was substituted off in the 64th minute. Despite registering just one shot, which happened to be his goal, Moffi displayed efficiency by completing 80% of his passes before leaving the pitch.

However, just moments after his departure, Toulouse seized the opportunity to turn the tide of the game with two rapid-fire goals on their home turf.

Thijs Dallinga initiated the comeback for the hosts, levelling the score before turning provider for Yann Gboho, who capitalised on the opportunity to secure the lead, ultimately sealing the victory for Toulouse.

While Moffi's goal served as a glimpse of his undeniable talent, Toulouse's resilience proved too much for the Eaglets to overcome, leaving them empty-handed in a closely contested battle.
