AFCON 2023: Super Eagles receive boost as Terem Moffi arrives in camp

Stephen Oladehinde 21:35 - 15.01.2024

Terem Moffi, the dynamic OGC Nice forward, has finally linked up with the Super Eagles squad in Abidjan, the hub of Nigeria's campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Moffi, initially not on Nigeria's final 25-man squad list, came as a strategic move following the injury of Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface.

Moffi's Delayed Arrival and First Training

Moffi's transition to the national team was temporarily held back by his club commitments in France. Despite the urgency of the national call, OGC Nice had him play in their Ligue 1 defeat to Rennes.

This commitment delayed his arrival in Cote d'Ivoire only after Nigeria's opening game against Equatorial Guinea, which concluded in a disappointing 1-1 draw.

On Tuesday, Moffi hit the ground running, participating in his first training session with the team as reported by Soar Super Eagles on X

This practice session was crucial as the Super Eagles ramped up preparations for their next challenge against the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire.

The upcoming match against Cote d’Ivoire is critical for Nigeria. The Elephants are leading Group A after a convincing 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau. Another victory for them would secure their spot in the next round.

Conversely, Nigeria, currently holding only one point, faces the pressure of potential elimination from the tournament. This game, scheduled for January 18th, is not just a match but a decisive moment for the Super Eagles under Jose Peseiro's guidance.

The addition of Moffi is timely for the Nigerian team, as they seek to regain their footing in the tournament. The stakes are high, and the Super Eagles must bring their best game against Cote d’Ivoire to keep their AFCON dreams alive.
