Nilson Angulo made the starting XI for Sunderland, as Chemsdine Talbi dropped to the bench for Regis Le Bris' side

For Liverpool, it was a first Premier League start of the season for Wataru Endo, who started at right-back, with Andy Robertson coming in at left-back.

The first half failed to produce any goals as both teams could not create any chances to get the ball into the back of the net.

Sunderland’s unbeaten home record this season came to an end after the final whistle was blown as Liverpool stole a narrow victory at the Stadium of Light.
