Tusker forward Stewart Omondi believes competition for places within the team is helping him realise his true potential

Tusker forward Stewart Omondi believes competition for places within the side’s setup is pushing him to work hard in order to earn as many starts as possible.

Omondi has become a regular starter in recent times after being an impact sub for much of his career in Ruaraka, which has coincided with the brewers getting three wins in their last five league games.

Tusker now find themselves in seventh place after a bad start to the league, nine points behind leaders Gor Mahia, and Omondi believes that working hard to keep impressing coach Robert Matano will only help the team moving forward.

“It is a good motivation and it shows that you need to work more,” Omondi said.

“You can get playing time, you have the opportunity to showcase your ability in the team and it is a good motivation and when you keep on training, it motivates you well.”

Omondi believes there is no substitute for hard work and failing to give up if Tusker are to continue their surge up the table.

“Just working, every day not giving up, and praying as well," he said.

The speedy forward, who can play anywhere across the front three, believes Tusker must keep registering wins, having overcome Bidco and Nzoia Sugar last week in order to gain more momentum in the race for the league title.

“We got a win, at least it is motivating as and we are looking for that momentum and rhythm in the league in that we can have three consecutive wins and that momentum will come, as well as the winning spirit and motivation will come within us,” he said.

The speedy winger has seen limited playing time this season thanks to the competition from the other flankers attached to the club.

Omondi has scored six goals for the club since signing in October 2022. He netted his maiden league goal against AFC Leopards last season and then scored four in the FKF Cup in 2022 to clinch the golden boot award.

He joined the brewers from Vihiga United, where he had also caught the eye of Ulinzi Stars, Kakamega Homeboyz and KCB.
