Miheso, who scored the side’s opening goal, has revealed the details of the meeting they had that effectively put fire into the bellies of the players to do well against Homeboyz.

AFC Leopards’ Clifton Miheso is optimistic that their win over Ingokho derby rivals Kakamega Homeboyz will be the first of many for the 13-time league champions.

Leopards have struggled this season, having won just one game in the build up to the match against the FKF Cup holders, but comfortably dispatched them 2-0 to move out of the relegation places into 14th place, while Homeboyz missed out on the chance to hit the 30-point mark.

Speaking after the game, Miheso, who scored the side’s opening goal, has revealed the determination within the playing staff and the details of the meeting they had that effectively put fire into the bellies of the players to do well.

“The game was difficult but we were determined as a team considering we had gone for a long time without winning,” Miheso told Pulse Sports.

“We had to sit down as players and decide that we had to do it for our fans because it had been a long time since we had won.

“I hope it will be the first of many wins and we are going to have a good second leg after this.”

Miheso has expressed relief at the fact they were finally able to score two goals, ending their long quest for goals from open play.

“We have been struggling as a team to score goals but at least today we are very happy that at least we scored from open play and we scored two goals today.

“Generally the team performed well and we hope the next games will be like that and we will score more important goals.”

There has been a simmering rivalry between Homeboyz and Leopards owing to the fact that the two enjoy support from Western Kenya.

This was on show in their last meeting in May when the match was abandoned due to an incident of hooliganism with Homeboyz later awarded the win while Leopards were heavily sanctioned by the Football Kenya Federation.
