‘I am both humbled and honoured’ - Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta receives prestigious Spanish award
The Spanish international was presented with the honour of ‘The Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic’ in Spain.
The King of Spain, the Grand Chancellor, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs bestow the award, which is a Spanish civil order of chivalry and distinction.
Since its establishment in 1815, it has been a very exclusive and uncommon honour given solely to individuals or organisations who have rendered outstanding services to Spain.
Arteta on Spanish honour
Arteta received the order in the Spanish Embassy in London, where he was joined by important Arsenal players, family members, and friends to celebrate the occasion.
The Spaniard, who is on the verge of winning Arsenal their first Premier League title in 21 years, was pleased to receive the award.
According to Arsenal's official website, Mikel said, “I am both humbled and honoured to receive The Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic.
“I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and my family to send my sincere gratitude and thanks to the King of Spain and the Grand Chancellor, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“It is a truly wonderful moment to accept this award today at the Embassy of Spain in London, together with so many people who have been inspirational to me during my life.
“This prestigious award bestowed on me is dedicated to all the special people in my life who have shaped my journey so far, helping me through challenges and celebrating the successes together.
“Finally, none of this would have been possible without my beautiful family. I thank you. I love you.”
"It's a big day for all of us, I have my mum, dad and sister here with me and all my family" 🥺
