Sports Cabinet Secretary Namwamba affirms Kenya's robust progress and readiness for the upcoming prestigious African football tournament, amidst regional collaborations.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has confidently assured that Kenya's preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is on track.

Addressing the stakeholders during a joint meeting in Diani, which saw representatives from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania converge, Namwamba detailed the ambitious plans for the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani and the new Talanta Sports City Jamhuri Stadium, poised to be Kenya's primary sports facilities for the continental showdown.

The Kasarani stadium, boasting a capacity of 60,000, is set to undergo significant renovations, aligning with CAF's stringent requirements.

On the other hand, the construction of the Talanta Sports City, dedicated solely to football, is an exciting development for the sport's future in Kenya.

“The start of these projects has taken longer than anticipated because the military, who were given the job, have internal processes they follow, but all is well now,” he stated as per Capital Sports.

In a recent update, Namwamba revealed progress after a pivotal meeting with Defence CS Adan Duale.

“I can confirm that in the latest briefing, I had a meeting with my colleague CS for Defence Adan Duale and agreed on key areas. The groundbreaking for Talanta Sports City Stadium will be done next month, and it will take two years to be completed,” Namwamba announced.

Nyayo National Stadium is also on the roster for refurbishments, ensuring that Kenya's sports infrastructure will not only meet the needs of AFCON 2027 but also serve as a testament to the country's commitment to sports development.

The Ulinzi Sports Complex and National Police Sacco Stadium are lined up as alternative arenas amidst the renovations of the mainstream stadia.

“I want to assure the country that we are committed, and it will work. Let us all rally behind this tournament, and if there’s a time we are more prepared than ever, it is now. The level of preparedness is unquestionable,” he enthused.

The East Africa Pamoja Afcon 2027 is a milestone event requiring six stadiums, with two accommodating at least 40,000 fans and the rest a minimum of 20,000.

The three East African nations have been entrusted with the task of readying these facilities by 2025, with each country also contributing Sh 4.6 billion to make the event a resounding success.
