Kenya gears up for AFCON 2027 by launching major stadium renovations with the Kenya Defence Forces leading the construction efforts.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has provided a comprehensive status update on the renovations of the country's premier stadiums as Kenya continues with preparations to co-host the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.
In a landmark announcement, Namwamba revealed that his ministry has officially handed over to the Ministry of Defence the responsibilities for the extensive work to revamp the sports infrastructure in the country.
In September, Kenya, alongside regional partners Uganda and Tanzania, secured the rights to host the 2027 AFCON.

Moreover, the jewel in the crown is the proposed Talanta Sports Complex. Envisioned to be a 50,000-seater marvel, it will feature not only a football stadium but also world-class training pitches and an indoor arena.

"Ministry of Youth and Sports has handed over the responsibilities to oversee the construction of the sporting infrastructure to the Ministry of Defense, which includes the refurbishment of the three main Stadia of Kasarani, Nyayo and Kipchoge Keino Stadium, as well as the construction of a 50,000 seater, completely new football only Stadium named Talanta Sports City at the Jamhuri grounds."
