Nigerian coach Eric Chelle has issued a stern warning to Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of their crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying clash against Rwanda.

The match, set to take place in Uyo, comes at a precarious time for Nigeria, who currently sit fourth on seven points from six matches in Group C following a poor run of form.

With South Africa and the Benin Republic both securing recent wins against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, respectively, to extend their lead, Nigeria’s path to qualification has become more complicated.

Despite these challenges, Chelle insists his players must block out all distractions and concentrate fully on the task at hand.

Speaking to the media in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, before the decisive match, Chelle has emphasised the importance of focusing solely on the Amavubi, Rwanda’s national team, as the Super Eagles seek to revive their fading World Cup hopes.

“For us, we are ready with our game plan. I want my players focused only on this match, not the World Cup Qualifiers as a whole,” Chelle stated during the pre-match press conference shared on the team’s social media.

The Super Eagles face a tough test against Rwanda’s Amavubi, who will be eager to capitalise on Nigeria’s fragile position in the group, buoyed by the fact that they had defeated the team at the same venue during their last visit to the country last year.

Chelle’s message is clear: success depends on maintaining focus and determination in this pivotal showdown. With a full house led by African Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman, and his predecessor, Victor Osimhen, Nigerians want nothing less than three points from the team.
