The former Red Devils centre-back has not been pleased with his old side’s game management against Brentford and Chelsea.

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has criticised his old side for their egregious management of recent Brentford and Chelsea games.

What happened?

The Red Devils fought back from two goals down against the Blues to lead 3-2 heading into second-half stoppage time but contrived to concede two goals in less than two minutes to lose 4-3 at Stamford Bridge, with Cole Palmer scoring his first Premier League hat-trick.

That collapse followed last Saturday’s inability to close out a 1-0 lead at Brentford after Mason Mount’s first competitive goal for Erik ten Hag’s men in the sixth minute of stoppage time did not suffice as the Bees stung the Manchester giants only three minutes later through Kristoffer Ajer’s 99th-minute equaliser.

What did Ferdinand say about Manchester United?

Having seen the Red Devils secure one point from both games when they could have picked up six, Ferdinand fired a warning to Ten Hag’s men before Sunday’s encounter with Liverpool.

“The big task now is for Erik ten Hag to get this team back on their feet,” said the erstwhile defender. “Because it’s a game of emotions. Liverpool are next, and he’s got to find a way of getting them up.

“They showed fight today, they showed character. But then it’s a lack of concentration at that final end. In the last two games, they’ve conceded three goals post-90 minutes. That tells you that concentration is an issue, and they have to get that sorted out.”

What comes next for Manchester United?

Thursday’s defeat at Stamford Bridge saw Man United miss an opportunity to edge closer to Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table, having seen Unai Emery’s team lose at Manchester City while Spurs were held by West Ham

Ten Hag’s team host Liverpool on Sunday in a rematch of their rip-roaring FA Cup tie in March, with the Red Devils coming up trumps at the death of extra time. Afterwards, Manchester United travel to Bournemouth on April 13 before an FA Cup semi-final meeting with Coventry on April 21.
