The club hierarchy has been impressed by the attitude of the squad and have set a bumper reward if they achieve the historic feat.

Tanzanian giants Yanga inched closer to reaching a historic CAF Confederation Cup final following their 2-0 victory over South African side Marumo Gallants on Wednesday and they have been promised a hefty bonus if they achieve the feat.

Aziz Ki’s 64th minute goal and Bernard Morrison’s stoppage time strike saw Yanga secure a semi-final first leg victory at home and need to avoid defeat by not more than one goal to advance to their maiden continental final.

It has now emerged that the squad has been promised a bumper Tsh300 million (Ksh17.4 million) if they make it to the final which seems to be working as extra motivation for the squad.

According to reports in Tanzanian media, the club’s hierarchy has been left impressed by the attitude and humility of the players who seem focused on securing the continental crown, hence the need to reward them handsomely.

Wednesday’s match saw Timu ya Wananchi go all out attack with coach Nasreddine Nabi keen to complete the job at home and the players responded by restricting the struggling South African side while scoring in key moments.

The tactician was, however, not entirely happy by the display which means he could employ a similar approach in the return leg match next Wednesday.

“We have won but I have not been impressed by the levels shown by my players,” Nabi said after the match.

More money await Yanga if they secure a place in the final given winners of the competition take home a cash reward of $1.2 million (Ksh164 million) while the runners-up pocket $625,000 (Ksh85 million).

The club have already received Tsh10 million (Ksh581,000) from Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan from her reward scheme that has seen her award Tsh5 million (Ksh290,000) for every goal scored in continental competitions.

Things will not be easy in South Africa, however, given Gallants shocked expensively-assembled Pyramids from Egypt at home in the quarter-final, but Nabi’s side will be counting on their good away record, which has seen them concede four goals in the seven matches on the road, in continental competitions this season.
