Amorim was fired by Manchester United, and given the news of his dismissal by Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox.
The decision follows a week of escalating tensions between the manager and the club's leadership, and cost the club a reported £10million.
Amorim's compensation package took the total cost of hiring and firing him to nearly £27m.
What next for Manchester United?
In the interim, Under-18s coach and club legend Darren Fletcher will take the helm for Wednesday's match against Burnley.
United are expected to appoint a temporary manager to see out the remainder of the season while they search for a permanent successor.
Amorim's departure comes after a dismal run of form. He managed only 25 wins in 63 matches, leaving him with the worst win percentage and lowest points-per-game average of any United manager in the Premier League era.
The club currently sit sixth in the table and missed out on European qualification last season for only the second time in 35 years.

Fletcher is set to manage the team for the upcoming fixtures against Burnley and the FA Cup tie against Brighton.
This temporary arrangement gives the club breathing room to consider long-term candidates, with high-profile managers like Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti potentially becoming available after the World Cup.
