The Spanish football federation RFEF have rejected Barcelona's appeal of Hansi Flick's red card.

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick will have to watch the El Clásico from the stands after the RFEF rejected the Blaugrana’s appeal of the sending-off.

Flick’s red card

As Pulse Sports reported, the German tactician received successive yellow cards towards the end of the victory against Girona and was forced to see the remaining game from the tunnel.

The sending-off effectively ruled him out of the next league game against Real Madrid. However, Barcelona's president, Joan Laporta, in decrying the referee, Jesus Gil Manzano, said they were going to appeal the decision

However, even in his comments, he sounded pessimistic about the likelihood of being successful in their appeal.

Flick's appeal rejected

The RFEF’s disciplinary committee announced today that it rejected Barcelona's appeal, stating that it found no evidence contrary to the referee's account of the situation.

"The request to annul the double caution that is the subject of this appeal must be rejected, and, consequently, the disciplinary consequences arising from the expulsion of Mr. Hans-Dieter Flick must be maintained, with the imposition of the one-match suspension provided for in Article 120 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code, with the corresponding accessory fines in application of Article 52," the resolution stated, per AS.

Consequently, Flick’s assistant Marcus Sorg will be on the bench for the El Clásico on Sunday afternoon at the new Santiago Bernabeu.
