PSG manager gives update on Kylian Mbappe injury during Le Classique win over Marseille

Mbappe was forced off against Marseille and PSG coach Luis Enrique has explained the true nature of the French forward's injury

Paris Saint Germain manager Luis Enrique has given an update on the injury suffered by star forward Kylian Mbappe during Les Parisiens 4-0 thrashing of Marseille.

The reigning Ligue champions enjoyed a stunning performance in Le Classique against their fierce rivals and left the match with mostly positive memories, bar one. 

PSG ran out 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Achraf Hakimi and Randal Kolo Muani, as well as a brace from substitute Goncalo Ramos, but Mbappe’s injury was a blight on the night for the Paris-based side.

Their mercurial forward suffered a rash challenge early in the game, which led to PSG’s first goal from a Hakimi freekick, and while Mbappe tried to continue with the game after receiving pitch-side treatment, he was eventually forced off close to the end of the first half. 

Luis Enrique gives update on Mbappe

Mbappe’s injury caused a moment of huge concern for fans of PSG and France, with important fixtures coming up for both sides, but Luis Enrique has alleviated those fears with a recent update. 

Luis Enrique was speaking after the Marseille win when he assured onlookers and fans that Mbappe’s injury was not as bad as it appeared and the forward was only taken off for precautionary reasons. 

The new Les Parisiens manager said, "It [The injury] is not serious, but there was pain. I think it was smarter to go out. It’s a blow, he's fine.”

PSG’s next few fixtures include UEFA Champions League matches against Newcastle and AC Milan, and the club will be elated that they will be able to count on Mbappe for those fixtures.
