Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that he is unsure about Cole Palmer's future with Manchester City.

The youngster has had a productive start to the year, scoring in the Community Shield loss to Arsenal and the UEFA Super Cup draw with Sevilla.

Palmer's deft header in the 63rd minute gave Man City the equaliser, and following a penalty shootout, Man City won the UEFA Super Cup.

However, he has been linked with a transfer this summer, with Brighton and West Ham among those who are reportedly keeping an eye on him.

Guardiola has now said that he is unsure of the youngster’s future at the club despite his recent performance.

Guardiola on Palmers future

Following the Super Cup final victory, Pep Guardiola stated in the post-game news conference that he is not sure of Palmer's future plans.

He told reporters after the game as reported by Daily Mail, “The opinion I had when he arrived is he wanted to leave, but now I don't know what's going to happen.

“I don't think a loan is going to happen. He's going to stay or going to sell, but I think a loan is not going to happen. I understand he wants to be more active than the previous season.

“But Riyad [Mahrez] has gone so we have one more place there. I cannot say anything because, of course, all the decisions need to be made by the club. The club has to decide what the best is. All together, we will do it.”

Guardiola praise palmers performance

Guardiola has lauded the young player for his effort in the win over Sevilla despite uncertainties over his future.

Guardiola continued, “He has a character. It's not easy to play against defenders like (Marcos) Acuna, for example, who is a top defender.

“It's not easy, it's a final. He's a young player playing in these stages. It's not easy for these guys. He played really, really good and made a fantastic goal, too.”

Meanwhile, Man City will welcome Newcastle to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday as they look to build on their UEFA Super Cup victory.
