NPFL champions Rivers United remain the team to beat and want to defend their crown but are aware that the Super 6 will not be an easy battle.

Rivers United manager Stanley Eguma has given an honest assessment of his team’s chances in the NPFL Super Six. 

United will kick off the final phase of their title defence this weekend when the 2023 NPFL Super 6 gets underway in Lagos. 

The Pride of Rivers have been drawn to face the surprise package of the season Sunshine Stars in their opening game of the Super 6.

Rivers United not afraid of any team

Stanley Eguma was live at the draw and spoke to the media moments after his team’s first opponent was confirmed. 

According to the NPFL winner, his Pride of Rivers are still the team to beat but will tread with caution as the five other teams in the Super 6 have the potential to lift the title.

Speaking of United’s chances, Eguma had this to say;

“Rivers United’s chances are bright,” he noted. “We are the defending champions, we can’t be afraid of any team.”

“Although, we have respect for all the teams because they are all potential winners (of the NPFL).

“No team (in the Super 6) that can’t win the trophy, but we are careful because we are the defending champions, we have to give our best. We need to work to improve our capacity to win the trophy, if not, it’s a different news.”

Eguma added that his team is ready and raring to get started in the Super 6. 

“But I tell you, the spirit is high and the players are raring to go,” he added.
