Former League leaders Lobi Stars failed to walk the talk in Benin City after a war of words against hosts Bendel Insurance.

Bendel Insurance returned to winning way after a hard-fought victory against former league winners Lobi Stars in Benini City.

Insurance ended a run of five matches without a win courtesy of a 1-0 win against the Yes Father boys from Benue, with Junior Osaghe the hero after he netted a last-ditch winner.

Lobi Stars’ pre-match hype

The highly anticipated market day encounter started with a war of words between the two teams.

Insurance fan, Zaddy of Benin posted on social media platform, X.com, formerly Twitter, to encourage fans of the Benin Arsenal to come cheer their fans to victory against the Pride of Benue.

“Make it a date with us on Saturday 2nd of December 2023 by 4 pm as @BendelInsurance of Benin take on @LobiStars of Makurdi,” Zaddy posted. “Gate fee is free,” he added. “You don’t want to miss this game for anything I promise you.”

Zaddy of Benin’s post did not go down well with the visitors, who reminded the avid supporter that the Benin Arsenal is a ‘nosing-making draw soup master.’

“Ehen. So much noise, no substance,” Lobi quoted Zaddy’s post. “Wrong #LobiStars logo. Off your , (5) draw soup master. A beg, where dem dey for dis #NPFL table sef?”

Bendel Insurance humble Lobi

Despite their pre-match confidence, the Pride of Benue failed to walk in the end as they dropped all three points to their hosts.

The victory ended Inusurance’s run of five matches (four draws and one defeat) without a win in the NPFL.

After the game, the Arsenals took to social media to respond to the Stars, with a proper rebuttal.

“My dear friend, @LobiStars Na jeje I sit down dey mourn 5 games, no win,” Insurance stated.

“But instead of me to show you around Oba Market, you enter my zanga dey drag me.”
