Manchester United fans have changed their tune about Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana, who was the hero as they claimed their first UEFA Champions League win of the campaign against Copenhagen.

The match started with Manchester United fans paying tribute to the hero of their first-ever European Cup title, Sir Bobby Charlton, but at the end of the match, they were paying homage to another hero in Onana

The Cameroonian goalkeeper faced the third penalty in three games in the Champions League, but this time the stakes were even higher than previous matches.

Red Devils midfielder Scott McTominay caused a penalty in the last minute of additional time in the second half, meaning Onana had to pull the chestnut out of the fire to keep Manchester United in front with the last action of the match.

Onana the toast of the town after UCL heroics

Copenhagen’s Jordan Larsson was tasked with rescuing a famous point for the away side with the last kick of the game but was unable to beat Onana in goal for Manchester United, as the Cameroonian pulled off an incredible save to keep the score at 1-0.

Fans were left in disbelief after Onana’s heroics, and declared the next week slander-free for the goalkeeper after his stunning save.

Others were also delighted to see Onana redeem himself after a difficult start to life at Manchester United and hoped that the performance against Copenhagen would be a turning point for the goalkeeper’s career.

Onana had been told to step up by Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag ahead of the game against Copenhagen and has clearly been moved into action by his manager’s words, as evidenced by his superb display.
