Nigeria 1-0 Burundi: Falconets book return ticket to FIFA U20 Women's World Cup

Nigeria's U20 Women's team the Falconets have sealed back-to-back appearances at the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup.

Nigeria’s under-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have secured another ticket to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, U20WWC, after another win against Burundi. 

Opeyemi Ajakaye was the heroine as Nigeria defeated Burundi 1-0 in the second leg at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium in Abuja for a 2-0 aggregate victory on Saturday.

Nigeria books World Cup spot

After a narrow 1-0 victory in the first leg, Nigeria came into the second leg looking to seal qualification on home soil. 

However, Burundi, as they did in the first leg, proved to be a hard nut to crack as they pushed the Falconets to their limits.

However, having held Nigeria to a goalless affair until late in the second half, their resistance was finally broken when super-sub, Ajakaye combined with fellow substitute Mary Lucky Mkpa to fire the Falconets ahead. 

Nigeria held on for the slim win to complete an aggregate win that sealed another appearance for the Falconets, who will compete in the tournament slated for Colombia later this year.

The win means Nigeria's exciting crop of young female talent will get the chance to shine on the world stage later this year.
