Brazilian superstar Neymar explains his decision to leave Europe for the Saudi Professional League.

Neymar has completed a luxurious move from Ligue 1 to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Professional League, amid interest from clubs in Europe. 

The Brazil international has now given some of the reasons for his choice to move away from European football while still in his prime. 

What Neymar said 

The playmaker was unveiled to the Al-Hilal fans yesterday, and in the presser after, he gave some of the reasons for his decision to make the move.

He wants to be a global player 

Neymar has won over 20 trophy titles in his career so far, including the Champions League and multiple LALIGA and Ligue 1 titles.

Having achieved so much and enjoyed a lot of success at the summit of the sport, he now wants to be a more global player and put himself through new challenges. 

"I've achieved a lot in Europe and enjoyed special times, but I have always wanted to be a global player and test myself with new challenges and opportunities in new places," Neymar said, per the BBC.

He wants to write new sporting history 

The Saudi Arabia Professional League is rising to become one of the major leagues in the world with their recent splurging on the game's biggest stars. 

Neymar claims to want to be one of the defining entities for the heights the league wants to reach. 

"I want to write new sporting history, and the Saudi Pro League has tremendous energy and quality players at the moment.”

A hub for Brazilian players 

Neymar explained that he has been informed that Saudi Arabia is a desirable place to be, as it has been home to a number of Brazilian players over the years. 

"I have heard a lot and learned that I am following a long list of Brazilian players who have played in Saudi Arabia over the years, so I believe it is the desired place."
