PL Newcastle United vs Southampton: Why the Saints will be sent to hell — Preview

Izuchukwu Akawor 08:31 - 29.04.2023

Southampton take their survival hopes to St James' Park this weekend to battle a ruthless Newcastle United looking for who to unleash more mayhem on.

Newcastle United have scored 10 goals in two Premier League matches, six at home and the other four away in the space of just four days.

You cannot wish a club with that record on your worst enemies but that is the fate relegation-threatened Southampton must square up to this weekend.

The Saints look doomed for Championship football next season even before this particular encounter against the latest bullies on the pitch Newcastle.

You have got to feel for them, especially given they have Nigeria Super Eagles duo Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu on their payroll.

Rampant Newcastle will show no mercy

Newcastle have enjoyed a brilliant run this season and are on the verge of Champions League football next season following an excellent result against Everton.

With the third-best away record in the PL this season, the Magpies went to Goodison Park and humiliated the Toffees in their home following a 4-1 win.

Newcastle United are on a run of eight unbeaten matches. Newcastle United vs Southampton

It was the second part of that run that saw them score 10 goals in two matches with the first part destruction of fellow Champions League contenders Tottenham.

The game against the Spurs ended 6-1, five of the goals came in the opening 24 minutes at St. James’ Park where the struggling Saints want to go marching on Sunday.

But the question is not if Eddie Howe’s men will win but how many goals Southampton will concede against the rampant Saudi Arabia-owned outfit.

Pray for the Saints

You will be mistaken to believe that this Southampton team gave league leaders Arsenal a scare last season given what their form has become.

Southampton fans will hope to see that team that nearly shocked Arsenal on their last away trip.

But that six-goal thriller which saw the Saints lead 3-1 with four minutes to go before surrendering their two-goal lead, was just two games ago.

That's how bad things are at St Mary’s, where they suffered another defeat to Bournemouth in the last game but are set to take on an in-form and motivated Magpies hoping to make amends.

Players to watch

Let's be honest here, which Southampton players were you expecting to see in this part? It's all Newcastle United here.

Newcastle United vs Southampton
Southampton have to be at their best to stop this Newcastle United team this weekend.

From Callum Wilson to Joelinton to £60m man, Alexander Isak who realigned a couple of 'Toff' waists the last time at Goodison, and Jacob Murphy, who is even scoring goals these days.

You can feel the fatal heat from the lake of fire.

Prediction

I must admit that it is an interesting coincidence that the visitors are called Saints and this game is slated for Sunday.

Everton vs Newcastle United
Eddie Howe has been cooking all season with this Newcastle United team. Eddie Howe seems to love what he is cooking.

However, even though what God cannot do doesn't exist, it is difficult to see anything but hell for these particular Saints after service this Sunday.

But if you still give them a bit of hope because of the Nigerian interest and presence, the head-to-head says not today.

The Saints have only managed just a point in their last five meetings against Newcastle, who have won all the remaining four consecutive meetings between them.

Hell is indeed real.
