After missing England matches, the forward is expected to be available for the Red Devils’ away game.

A visit to St James Park is expected to be a mettle test for Manchester United as they resume their Premier League action against Newcastle United after the FIFA break.

After registering no wins from five games between February and the beginning of March, the Magpies experienced a resurgence and defeated Wolves and Nottingham Forest to reignite their top four hopes before the international break.

On the other hand, United experienced triumphant moments against Real Betis in the Europa League and Fulham in a FA Cup match before the break.

But in the Premier League, the Red Devils experienced a situation to forget when they fell 7-0 to Liverpool before a 0-0 draw against Southampton. They only played two league matches in March.

The match at St James Park carries a lot of stakes, as both teams – who met in the Carabao Cup final - are also rivals in the fight for the top four finish.

Team News

Eddie Howe will have to draft his starting XI without Miguel Almiron and Emil Krafth, who are ruled out with thigh and anterior cruciate ligament injuries, respectively.

While Joelinton is back from a two-match ban, Ryan Fraser remains exiled and is training with the U21 side.

Nick Pope with a knock, Sven Botman with a fever, Allan Saint-Maximin with a thigh issue, and Anthony Gordon with an ankle problem will be assessed following the international break.

For Erik ten Hag, Casemiro will not be available as he continues to serve his domestic ban that came following a red card in their match against Southampton.

Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen remain out as they are suffering from knee and ankle injuries, respectively.

Raphael Varane is expected to start despite carrying a knock, while Anthony Martial could make his return and start on the bench after recovering from a hip problem.

Although Marcus Rashford was not involved for England due to a suspected knock, he is set to start on the left flank against the Magpies.

What are the stats saying?

Manchester United have won more Premier League away games against Newcastle United than any other side (14). However, they have lost two of their last five outings at St. James’ Park (W2 D1), having lost just one of their previous 13.

Newcastle United are winless in six Premier League games against Manchester United (D2 L4). But the last two meetings have been stalemates. They have not gone three league games without defeat against the Red Devils since January 2012 (W1 D2).

Manchester United have failed to score in their most recent two Premier League games, as many times as in their first 24 matches this season. The Red Devils last went three league games without a goal in February 2020 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Coming into this weekend’s fixtures, only Bournemouth (38), Nottingham Forest (32) and Leicester City (30) have conceded more away goals in the Premier League this season than Manchester United (27). Only in four different Premier League campaigns have the Red Devils conceded more on the road – 1999/00 (29), 2001/02 (28), 2018/19 (29), and 2021/22 (35).
