Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce dropped crucial points in a draw against nine-man Goztepe, leaving them already trailing Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray in the Turkish title race.

Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce suffered a costly setback as they dropped crucial points in a 0-0 draw against nine-man Göztepe on Saturday night.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that the result leaves the Portuguese tactician’s side trailing behind Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray early in the Turkish Süper Lig title race.

The thrilling encounter was marred by three red cards, two shown to Goztepe players, Juan and Ismail Koybasi, and one to a Fenerbahçe player, Jayden Oosterwolde.

This shows the intensity and physicality of the match that also featured Nigerian midfielder, Anthony Dennis , who was on the pitch for 78 minutes.

But despite enjoying a numerical advantage late on, Fenerbahçe missed a golden opportunity to claim all three points when new signing Anderson Talisca failed to convert a penalty in the 94th minute.

This unexpected slip-up leaves Mourinho facing an uphill battle early on in the new season as his side looks to challenge for the title, especially after Galatasaray’s emphatic start to the season.

Just 24 hours earlier, Nigerian star Victor Osimhen had made his second debut for the reigning champions, helping secure a dominant 3-0 victory over Karagumruk.

Osimhen’ 26, failed to make his return with a debut goal but Galatasaray had no problems taking all three points to make it back-to-back wins in the Super Lig.

For their rivals, Fenerbahce, the draw against a depleted Göztepe side not only costs Mourinho valuable points but also hands early psychological advantage to Galatasaray, signaling a fierce battle ahead in the Turkish top flight.

Mourinho’s team will need to regroup quickly if they want to keep pace with Osimhen and the title-holders.
