Michael Owen predicts Premier League winner, rules out Man City
Former England striker Michael Owen has tipped Liverpool to reclaim the Premier League title next season while naming Chelsea as a surprise contender to disrupt the usual order.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Owen weighed in on the potential title race involving last season’s top four, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Aston Villa.
What Owen said
As expected, he backed Jurgen Klopp’s side to finish on top, but raised eyebrows by ruling out Manchester City as a major threat.
He said, “I’m firmly in Liverpool’s camp. If there’s going to be an upset, I think Arsenal and the big outsider is maybe Chelsea. I don’t think Man City can bounce back that quick.”
While Arsenal remain a safe bet after finishing second in successive seasons, it’s Chelsea’s mention as a dark horse that could excite fans.
Chelsea also have a favourable opening fixture list, with tougher opponents visiting Stamford Bridge, offering Maresca’s side a chance to build early momentum.
Owen acknowledged that a lot hinges on how quickly the new signings gel and whether Chelsea can trim their bloated squad into a balanced, competitive unit.
If the Stamford Bridge rebuild pays off, Chelsea could very well return to the title conversation.
