McKinstry saw those attributes in display first hand during their win over Ulinzi Stars last Saturday.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has revealed the two attributes his new signings have added to the team that will help the side in defending its league title at the end of the season.

K’ogalo have made nine new signings as they continue to come to grips with the lifting of their transfer ban last season after having to withstand three windows without being able to recruit in 2022.

Speaking after his side’s unconventional 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars, McKinstry hailed the leadership and character his new signings have brought to the side which will enable them to grind out wins against tricky opposition.

McKinstry hailed Kennedy ‘Vidic’ Onyango in particular, as the former Nairobi City Stars captain has brought with him leadership qualities and has become like a second coach on the pitch.

“Man for man, we have gotten better talent in the team,” McKinstry said, “ We made sure we recruited in the right areas,” he added.

“I think if you look at players like Rodgers Mugisha, only 20 years old. He was in the team of the tournament at AFCON u20 a few months ago and you can see the talent he has there for such a young man, Patrick Sibomana, another top player and even guys like Kennedy Oyango.

“He has been around for a long time and on days like today, you are not looking for the fancy flicks and tricks. You are looking for someone who organizes, who wins his tackles, who gets the line up.

“Both in terms of technical ability and also just leadership, we have taken a step forward this year.”

Gor Mahia will take on Nairobi City Stars in their third match of the season next week once the international break is over.
