FKFPL: Matano scoffs at detractors for writing off Tusker's title chance

The Brewers were held to a 0-0 draw by fellow struggling side AFC Leopards which leaves Matano with plenty to answer given his side are 12 points off the pace of leaders Gor Mahia.

Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano believes that his charges can still win the title despite experiencing what has been a very indifferent start by their standards.

The Brewers were held to a 0-0 draw by fellow struggling side AFC Leopards at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos which leaves Matano with plenty to answer given his side are 12 points off the pace of leaders Gor Mahia.

The first half saw AFC Leopards dominating, with Tusker FC goalkeeper Brian Bwire making a crucial save after 15 minutes to deny Brain Yakhama's header following a cross from Clifton Miheso.

Leopards’ keeper Humphrey Katasi was also forced to make a save from David Odoyo’s half-volley in the first half and a well-curled free-kick from Boniface Onyango in the second half.

Speaking after the match, Matano bullishly dared his rivals to write the side off at their own peril, insisting that they have come back from adversity a ton of times before.

"We have only played 12 matches and we have a game in hand, therefore, it would be a big mistake to write us off," Matano remarked.

"This is not the first time we have experienced a slow start to the season. We have always risen above the odds to lift the trophy and we hope this season will be no different," Matano said.

"We are not badly off and I believe we still have a chance to contend successfully for the title if we can focus on our remaining matches."

The outcome left Tusker 12th on the log with 15 points, 12 adrift of leaders Gor Mahia who moved to the top following a 2-1 win over Kariobangi Sharks at the same venue on Sunday. On the other hand, AFC Leopards remain 14th with 11 points.
