Marseille have joined the race to sign Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi and are even willing to offer Lorient a player in return.

French giants Marseille are entering the race to sign Nigerian striker Terem Moffi from Lorient and are prepared to offer a player in exchange.

The second-placed Ligue 1 team are reportedly set to offer Senegalese striker Bamba Dieng in a potential deal to sign Moffi.

22-year-old Dieng has fallen out of favour at the Stade Velodrome after having two potential transfers to Leeds United and Stade Rennes collapse in the summer and they’re now looking to get him off their books.

Moffi to Marseille?

French publication Foot Mercato reports that Marseille intends to join OGC Nice in the pursuit of Moffi, using Senegalese striker Dieng as a makeweight.

22-year old Senegalese forward Bamba Dieng could be offered to Lorient in exchange for Moffi

Marseille president Pablo Longoria and Marseille sporting director Javier Ribalta are reported to have both contacted the player’s entourage in order to lay the groundwork for a possible transfer.

However, an offer is yet to be made, and it is accepted that it will take a significant financial outlay to conclude a deal for Moffi who is Ligue 1’s second-highest scorer according to L’Equipe.

Terem Moffi has been in fine form for Lorient this season

Marseille are hoping that including Dieng in the deal will reduce the financial burden of trying to sign Moffi from Lorient.

23-year-old Moffi has scored 12 goals in 18 league games for Lorient this season so far, making him one of the most sought-after players in Europe.

The Nigerian was left off Lorient’s Coupe de France squad over the weekend which raised eyebrows about his transfer situation with OGC Nice his strongest suitors since the winter window opened.

Reports estimate that Lorient want a flat €25m fee for Moffi who has just about 18 months left on his current deal.
