Walker saw his playing time at Manchester City greatly reduced in the 2022/23 season as the Citizens switched tactics to a formation that left the England international without a place in the starting lineup.

Despite the former Tottenham defender struggling for game time, he still showed his quality when called upon, including in the two legs of Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid.

Even at 33 years old, Walker's limited performances have attracted interest from another of Europe’s top clubs, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City have already started preparing for the possibility of losing the defender to the Bavarians.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Cityzens have already identified a replacement for Walker who could fit seamlessly into their current system.

Manchester City are reportedly set to seek a deal for Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard if the Bavarians are able to sign Walker this summer.

Bayern Munich are open to Pavard’s sale as the French defender’s insistent on playing at his preferred centre-back position, where the Bavarians are stacked after signing Korean defender Kim Min-Jae from Napoli.

Manchester City’s current back-three system could serve as the perfect home for Pavard, who can play at centre-back, provide cover at right-back and also slot into midfield like John Stones did last season.
