What Alba said
Alba, 36, was one of the leaders of the Barcelona squad when Yamal made his famed debut against Real Betis on April 29, 2023. He was even an unused substitute during the match, with another youngster, Alejandro Balde, taking up his spot in the team.
Alba speaks from a place of familiarity and experience, and while he first lauded the 17-year-old for the strides he has made in record time, he implored him to keep improving and stay grounded.
"He debuted with us with Barcelona and I think he was 15 years old,” Alba said, per Goal. “He already looked like a different player, but the physical change he has made these last two years has made him a differential player. What he is doing is incredible.

As Alba alluded to, the teenager is one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or this season and could break Ronaldo Nazario’s record (21 years and 95 days old) of being the youngest player to win the award.
He impressed in Barcelona's UCL campaign, which ended in a sensational semi-final exit to Inter. He scored the title-deciding goal for Barcelona in LALIGA and was also integral to their Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana triumphs.
