Kenya triumphs to host CHAN 2024, also securing rights for other prestigious football championships; gearing up for sports infrastructure development.

Kenya has once again secured the privilege of hosting major football tournaments, with the government announcing its successful bids for several high-profile events.

The news was revealed following a Cabinet meeting chaired by President William Ruto in Kisumu on Monday.

The country has been granted the rights to host the prestigious 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN) alongside other significant tournaments.

"In addition to AFCON 2027, Kenya has also been selected to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in September 2024; the CECAFA Under-18 Championship in November 2023, and the AFCON Under-15 (Pan-African Schools Football) CECAFA Region Championship in December 2023," the Cabinet statement declared.

This exciting announcement marks a significant moment for Kenya's footballing future. However, it is important to note that there has been no official communication from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirming Kenya's hosting rights for the 2024 CHAN.

Kenya's previous experience in hosting football events had been a mixed one. While the nation was initially awarded the hosting rights for the 2018 CHAN, unpreparedness ultimately led to them losing the opportunity. Now, with another chance on the horizon, Kenya is determined to make amends and prove its capability.

The 2024 CHAN is scheduled for September, promising to be a showcase of African football talent and a momentous occasion for the nation.

Additionally, football enthusiasts can look forward to the CECAFA Under-18 Championship, set to captivate audiences from November 25 to December 9, 2023.

To successfully co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside neighbors Uganda and Tanzania, Kenya must ensure its facilities meet international standards.

In response to this challenge, the Cabinet has approved various construction and renovation projects for hosting the 36th edition of Afcon, further emphasizing the government's commitment to developing sports infrastructure.
