The Bankers coach aims for success in the 2023/2024 FKF Premier League after coming close in recent years.

KCB FC head coach Bernard Mwalala has placed his faith in the dynamic trio of Apollo Otieno, Derrick Otanga, and Nicholas Kipkirui to spearhead his team's quest for glory in the 2023/2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).

The Bankers are gearing up for their second match of the season against Kariobangi Sharks after beating AFC Leopards 1-0 at Kasarani Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Originally scheduled to begin their league journey against Kakamega Homeboyz last weekend, KCB had to postpone their clash due to Abana Abeingo's commitments in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nevertheless, coach Mwalala remains undeterred and has his sights set on achieving great success with his team.

"I was itching to secure Otanga's signature during my stint at Bandari. It appeared he had been starved of precious playing minutes at Kenya Police, and my burning desire is to rekindle his former scoring prowess, propelling him back into the glorious realm of the national team," coach Mwalala passionately expressed.

"Otanga, once harboring self-doubt, now radiates a newfound self-assuredness, fanning the flames of competition within the team. As a maestro of coaching excellence, one must wield a quiver of formidable attackers. Behold, Apollo, Kipkirui, and Otanga stand at the crossroads of refinement," the coach's words sizzle with intensity.

Otanga displayed his prowess on Friday when he came off the bench and scored with nine minutes remaining in the clash.

With renewed optimism, Mwalala added that he is happy that the league now boasts an official broadcaster with the arrival of Azam TV.

"I am happy that the league is back on television. That will motivate players. It also brings professionalism in the league and will be beneficial to players too," he concluded.

Mwalala arrived at KCB to take the reins from Zedekiah Otieno who left the club when his contract expired.

The Bankers concluded the previous season in the sixth position and under the leadership of the former Kenya international Mwalala, they are determined to climb higher and challenge for the league title.
