Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola talks about the red card shown to Alexis MacAllister in Liverpool defeat.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola suggests he does not think the red card given to Alexis MacAllister in their defeat to Liverpool was a correct decision, as he said it did not look like a penalty in real-time.

The Reds thumped the Cherries 3-1 at Anfield in today's Premier League action, and they registered their first victory of the season. However, the win was tainted by the Argentine receiving his marching orders.

The hosts were hit early, conceding as early as the third minute of the game after an Antoine Semenyo strike.

They found the equaliser in the 27th minute after a brilliant flick by Luis Diaz, before Mohammed Salah fired them ahead in the 36th minute, rebounding a penalty he initially missed.

Mac Allister was shown red in the 58th minute of the game before Portugal international Diogo Jota closed off the scoring in the 62nd minute.

What Iraola said

Despite the decision favouring his team, the Basque manager says he does not see the action that led to the Argentina international as enough to warrant a penalty.

“I don’t know. In real life, it did not look like a red card,” he said, per the BBC.

This is in line with what Klopp said about the incident as reported previously: “I understand 100% how it looks for a ref in that moment, but when you see it back it is the inside of the foot and no power behind it. It is not ruthless; it is just mis-hit the ball and then hit slightly the shin of the other player.”
