Wayne Rooney has advised Manchester United to focus on building core squad and not chasing superstar names.

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has urged the club to shift their focus from signing "superstar names" to building a stable squad around a committed core of players.

This advice comes amid reports linking United to Wolves' Matheus Cunha.

Rooney believes United should identify a group of players who can sustain the club's success over the next few years, rather than chasing high-profile signings.

While Cunha is reportedly keen on joining United, Rooney doesn't consider him a "superstar" at the level of players like Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba, whom United signed in the past.

"I think there are a lot of players who are good enough for Manchester United," Rooney said on The Overlap.

He continued, “I think he's (Cunha) a top player, and since a lot of players have gone now with ability and reputation and have struggled over the last few years, so, I think it's difficult.

“United needs to really identify a core group of players who can help sustain the club over the next two or three years. Instead of going for names which they've done in the past with (Romelu) Lukaku, (Paul) Pogba, Zlatan (Ibrahimovic). Going for superstars and names, which I don't think Cunha is at that level at the minute,” he said.

Rooney's comments highlight the need for United to reassess their recruitment strategy and prioritize building a cohesive squad.

Cunha's potential move to Old Trafford could be motivated by the opportunity to wear the iconic No. 10 jersey, worn by legendary players like Rooney himself.
