Super Falcons star Michelle Alozie makes her early predictions for the 2026 football calendar.
Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has declared her loyalties for the 2026 calendar year, picking her favourites for important awards and titles like the AFCON, World Cup, and the Ballon d’Or.
The Houston Dash star is one of the most recognised faces in women’s football. In a recent podcast appearance, she was asked to name her favourites for respective titles, and her answers showed where her loyalties lie.
Alozie backs Super Eagles for AFCON
The most unsurprising answer she gave was her choice for the winner of the AFCON. The Nigerian star wasted no time naming the Super Eagles, insisting that she had to back her countrymen.
“I’m going to have to say Nigeria. I believe in them. Especially, obviously, them getting knocked out of World Cup contention. I think that this is a big trophy for them to win.
Alozie picks World Cup winner
Evidently a Lionel Messi fan, Alozie prefers for Argentina to win it and for the Inter Miami star to sail into the sunset with a World Cup trophy for his second hand. However, she said Spain were objectively the favourites.
“I feel like this is Messi’s last World Cup. I’d love for him to just win it again. But honestly, with how a team is doing, I feel like it would probably be Spain. It has to be, they have been so amazing.
Alozie pick World Cup Golden Boot winner
For the World Cup Golden Boot, Alozie picked a left-field option, ignoring centre-forwards and obvious options to pick La Roja’s Lamine Yamal, scoffing at options like Harry Kane as “boring selections.” Yamal is a talented footballer and is a contender for the Golden Ball. However, he is more of a playmaker than a goalscorer.
Alozie pick Champions League winner
The 28-year-old backed Paris Saint-Germain to defend their Champions League crown, stating unflinchingly that it had to be them.
Michelle Alozie on Ballon d'Or
Alozie said that Vinicius should have beaten Rodri to the 2024 Ballon d'Or, arguing that the Real Madrid star was hard done by. And as such, she tipped him to win the 2026 edition.
Alozie picks WSL winner
Alozie's Super Falcons bias was at play when asked to pick the likely winner for this season's WSL, as she backed Chiamaka Nnadozie's Brighton, who are currently 7th on the log, 16 points behind league leaders Manchester City.
