Former Enugu Rangers star Ibrahim Olawoyin was the man of the match for Rizespor in a five-goal thriller against Basaksehir

Former Rangers star dazzler Ibrahim Olawoyin fully announced himself in the Turkish Super Lig following an outstanding display for Rizespor on Saturday.

Olawoyin finally opened his season’s account after he netted a brace to inspire his club to a crucial come-from-behind 3-2 win against Basaksehir.

Olawoyin steals show

In what his 14th game of the season for the newly promoted club, the former Antelope was rewarded with his goals in the Turkish elite division. 

The 26-year-old proved decisive for the home side in the end-to-end encounter as he scored the decisive equaliser to kickstart the comeback and also wrapped up proceedings with the last goal of the day which turned out to be the difference for Rizespor.

Olawoyin could have had a memorable hat-trick but missed a glaring chance in the match, but still scored with his only two attempts in the match.

Following that performance, the winger, who played from central midfield in this fixture, has now contributed three goals (2 goals and 1 assist) for Rizespor.

Rizespor move up the table

In terms of what the result means, Rizespor will be happy with the three points. 

The visitors started on a front foot, with a sixth-minute goal to take a 1-0 lead but let it slip as Rizespor hit back with two goals in five minutes to take the lead after 17 minutes.

Ghanaian centre-back Jerome Opoku restored parity just before the break when he levelled things at 2-2.

But Rizespor would have the last laugh when Olawoyin’s 90th-minute winner ensured all three points would remain at the Caykur Didi Stadium.

Rizespor moved up to seventh in the standings after the win, with 21 points, while Basaksehir sit in trouble in the relegation waters.
