Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is now open to selling Nigerian sensation Victor Osimhen after the Nigerian striker's refusal to sign a new contract with the club

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has aimed a thinly veiled threat at contract rebel Victor Osimhen as the Nigerian striker refuses to sign a contract three months into the new season.

Osimhen facing uncertain Napoli future

Osimhen was the catalyst behind Napoli claiming their first Serie A title for 33 years in the 2022/23 season, scoring a league-high 26 goals as the Partenopei cruised to the Scudetto.

However, the new season has yet to go according to plan for Osimhen or Napoli, as the Partenopei struggle to defend their title, while the Nigerian faces numerous off-field problems distracting him from replicating his form from the last campaign.

In addition to going to war with the club over a TikTok post, Osimhen has also faced accusations of abduction in Nigeria and is yet to sign a new deal with Napoli to extend his contract, despite claiming that he wants to remain with the Partenopei.

Napoli president open to selling Osimhen

The Super Eagles striker’s current contract expires in 2025, and he had been under pressure to sign a new deal which would secure his future at Napoli, or ensure that the club would receive a handsome payout in the event of his sale.

However, despite apparently agreeing to a contract in August, Osimhen has yet to put pen to paper on the new deal, causing frustration with De Laurentiis.

The Napoli president recently spoke about the situation, saying, “We verbally agreed on new deal in August, then if things change on his side… life goes on”. Victor’s contract expires in June 2025, there’s always time [to sell]. Remember… I sold Koulibaly to Chelsea one year before end of his deal.”

The recent drama involving Osimhen combined with the striker’s reluctance to sign a new contract could result in a divorce between the parties, with Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal offering the Nigerian almost £1 million, while Premier League side Chelsea remains interested in his services.
