Despite the constant comparisons to the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, Yamal's priority is forging his own legacy.

Yamal said, "I think I respect Messi in the end for what he was and for what he is for football. And if we ever meet on a football pitch someday, there will be mutual respect.

Lionel Messi scored 2 goals and assisted 1 as Inter Miami defeated Atlanta United 4-0 at home.

"He's the best in history," he said of Messi. "We both know I don't want to be Messi, and Messi knows I don't want to be him. I want to follow my own path, and that's it."
