David Beckham gave fans a bit of a scare with a photo that appeared on his and his wife Victoria's Instagram stories.
The former England midfielder, who celebrated his 50th birthday in May, was pictured with his right arm in a brace after undergoing wrist surgery.
British media revealed that the surgery had been planned for some time by the former England captain. He had been complaining of increasing pain in his right wrist, which he fractured 22 years ago.
The injury occurred during a friendly match played by the England national team on May 22, 2003 (a 2-1 victory, with goals scored by Gareth Southgate and Emile Heskey).

David Beckham Set to Make History with Upcoming Royal Tribute
Beckham is expected to receive a major honour in King Charles’ upcoming Birthday Honours list for his contributions.
Victoria's message to David
Beckham, who assisted the opening goal in Durban, had to leave the field in the 51st minute, being replaced by the late Sven Goran Eriksson with Jermain Jenas.
He broke his wrist, and the fractured bones and the traumatized area didn't heal properly, so David continued to play with discomfort and pain, which worsened over time.

The "Spice Girl" accompanied her husband to the hospital and photographed him in a hospital bed, his arm in a blue brace, smiling at the camera.
According to reports from Abola, Victoria posted the photo on Instagram, along with the message "Get well soon."
A second posted photo shows David lying in bed wearing a beaded bracelet with the same words.
According to The Independent, "While Mrs. Beckham did not share any further details about David's condition, several news publications and agencies speculated that he underwent surgery to treat a lingering wrist injury."

The surgery comes after the former England captain received a knighthood for his services to sport and charity in the King's Birthday Honours earlier this month.
David said, "I never imagined I would receive such a great honour. I grew up in East London with my parents and grandparents, who were so patriotic and proud to be British."
His 22-year-old son, Romeo, reacted to the news online, saying: "I'm so proud of you."
