Despite leading Inter to the Serie A title this season, a former Nerazzurri star has labelled Simone Inzaghi 'overrated' for not winning the Scudetto in the last two seasons as well
Former Inter, Real Madrid and AC Milan star Antonio Cassano was blunt in his criticism of Simone Inzaghi's coaching abilities, calling him "overrated" despite Inter's Serie A success.
Cassano slams league-winning Inzaghi
Cassano did not hold back during an event in Catania, questioning the amount of praise that Inzaghi got following Inter's Scudetto victory, implying that the coach's reputation may be overblown.
Cassano remarked, "It’s strange that Inzaghi is being made to look like some stratospheric coach for winning this Scudetto.”

The former Inter international did not hesitate to attack Inzaghi's coaching abilities, especially given Inter's failure to win Serie A titles in prior seasons. Despite Inter's recent success, Cassano suggested that Inzaghi's coaching should be examined for wasted opportunities in less competitive seasons.
He argued, "I think he ought to be blamed for failing to win the last two Serie A titles against teams that were by a wide margin inferior to his own squad.”
Inzaghi’s achievements at Inter
Despite Cassano’s scathing review of Inzaghi’s spell at Inter, the former Lazio coach’s time in Milan has been littered with several successes in three short years.
In addition to winning the Serie A this season, Inzaghi has also led the Nerazzurri to two Coppa Italia and three Supercoppa Italiana trophies, as well as a runners up place in the 2023 UEFA Champions League, losing to treble winners Manchester City in the final.
