While it was a quiet weekend across board for Nigerian players abroad, Super Eagles main man Victor Osimhen and a forgotten star kept the fire burning with goals in Europe.

Turkish Sensation Paul Onuachu outshines Super Eagles’ elites Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman; Alex Iwobi surpasses Nigerian PL appearance record.
Osimhen leads again
The 26-year-old scored the all-important equaliser as Galatasaray came from behind to beat their hosts Goztepe 3-1 on Sunday. Osimhen’s goal was his third in two matches for Gala in a matter of days, taking his tally to six in all competitions.
He was the only Nigerian who found the net in Turkey, with in-form Paul Onuachu stopped from adding to his impressive seven goals this season for Trabzonspor.
On Friday, Super Eagles hero in the World Cup qualifiers Akor Adam was helpless as Sevilla fell 2-1 to Real Sociedad while Victor Boniface continued with his goal drought for Werder Bremen and across competitions in the Bundesliga.
Another Super Eagles star who seems to be struggling to score this season is soon-to-be dethroned African Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman.
Lookman, 27, earned his sixth appearance of the season for Atalanta but failed to find the net again despite featuring for 90 minutes in 1-1 draw at Cremonese.
In the French Ligue 1, Moses Simon’s first match against former club Nantes ended in defeat for the Super Eagles winger, who featured for 85 minutes but failed to help Paris FC avoid defeat at home.
Meanwhile, his compatriot, Chidozie Awawiem was impressive for the visitors at centre back, after completing 90% of his passes, winning one tackle, two blocks, 17 clearances, 7 aerial duels won and 5 recoveries.
The Premier League contingent led by Alex Iwobi, who made history at the weekend, tasted defeat across the board. Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, who gifted the Magpies a goal with a costly error, fell 2-1 to Newcastle United.
Chrisantus Uche’s Crystal Palace fell to Arsenal at the Emirates, with the Nigerian a 90th minute substitute. Wolves failed to make home advantage count against promoted side Burnley.
Nigeria’s Tolu Arokodare got a six-minute cameo after coming on in the 84th minute of the heartbreaking 3-2 defeat.
In the Serie A, forgotten forward Gift Orban made a return to the score sheet to remind everyone that he’s still alive. He gave Hellas Verona a 2-1 lead at Cagliari with his second of the season. But the home side failed to hold on to the lead as the visitors snatched a share of the spoils in added time.
