Nigeria Super Eagles main man Victor Osimhen made the list for 'The Best' Award and FIFA took fans on a journey to how it all began.

SSC Napoli hero Victor Osimhen continues to attract adulation for his impressive performance, with FIFA the latest to celebrate the Nigerian forward. 

Osimhen has been rewarded for an excellent 2022/2023 outing for his club Napoli, who he led to the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years. 

The 24-year-old has been nominated for the 2023 FIFA The Best Award, the latest accolade for the Nigeria Super Eagles striker.

The 2022/2023 campaign will remain special for the former Lille man after he wrote his name in the history books for his club and the Serie A.

Osimhen netted 26 goals to help Napoli reclaim their position as Italian champions for the first time in over 30 years.

His goals also saw him make history as the first African to be named as the best striker in the history of the Serie A.

The Nigerian star has become an icon in Naples following these feats, which have also seen him nominated for the Ballon d’Or and now, The Best.

FIFA celebrates Osimhen

Osimhen’s performance for club and country was recognised by the world football governing body as they listed him among 12 of the best in the world.

As reported by Pulse Sports, Osimhen will battle the likes of Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe for the coveted award. 

Following his nomination, FIFA has shared a throwback video of the Nigerian forward during his youth international days for Nigeria.

The video, posted on X.com, showed Osimhen turning the Croatian goalkeeper and his defenders before putting the ball in an empty net.

He went on to celebrate with his long-term friend, Samuel Chukwueze. 

The video has also elicited reactions from Nigerians and football fans around the world.
