FIFA Club World Cup: Ilkay Gundogan powers Manchester City to 6-0 win against Al-Ain
Ilkay Gundogan netted two goals as Manchester City easily defeated Emirati club Al-Ain 6-0.
The victory means that the Premier League giants advanced to the knockout stage of the Club World Cup from Group G alongside Juventus.
By making 11 changes, city manager Pep Guardiola demonstrated the depth of his squad, and Gundogan capitalized on his starting opportunity.
The German midfielder scored in the 9th and 73rd minutes, while Argentine teenager Claudio Etcheverri netted a free kick and Erling Haaland converted a penalty before halftime.
In the final 10 minutes, substitutes Oscar Bobb and new acquisition Rayan Cherki secured the decisive win.
Manchester City leveled with Juventus on goal difference after the Italian side recorded a 4-1 victory over Wydad Casablanca earlier that day.
Al-Ain displayed greater ambition than in their 5-0 defeat to Juventus, with winger Nassim Chadli having an opportunity to equalize in the 15th minute.
However, City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno successfully pushed the ball wide as they held on for the win.
