Exeter's Vincent Harper expresses high expectations joining Harambee Stars, anticipating successful matches ahead, including the friendly against Russia in Antalya.

Exeter City's  rising star defender Vincent Harper has opened up about his optimistic outlook and expectations after joining the Harambee Stars camp in Turkey.

The squad is currently preparing for an imminent friendly against Russia set for Monday, October 16, 2023, in the scenic city of Antalya.

The 23-year-old Harper, who was born in Kenya to Kenyan parents before moving to England at a tender age, was warmly welcomed by the team on Monday.

In his first-ever interview since hitting the camp, the spirited defender could not hide his enthusiasm about the adventure ahead with the national team.

“I was born in Kenya, Kenya. Both parents were born in Kenya as well and I moved to England when I was quite young,” Harper reminisced.

“It was great to familiarize myself with the rest of the squad and engage in training. I am grateful to be here. Staff are very helpful and give us all what we need," he continued.

The Kenyan-English player further shared his high hopes and ambitious vision for the squad, expressing confidence in both the players and the coaching staff.

“Ambitions are high, from the squad we got at the moment it is a very good squad and we have a good coach and staff,” Harper said optimistically.

“If we work hard we can reach the Africa Cup of Nations and even qualify for World Cup,” Harper added, signifying his belief in the team's potential to not only participate but also make a significant impact in these prestigious tournaments.

Kenya's international friendly match against Russia will serve as the ultimate preparation and litmus test before they embark on the rigorous journey of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers slated to commence this November.

The Harambee Stars find themselves pooled in Group F, facing formidable opponents including Ivory Coast, Gabon, Gambia, Burundi, and Seychelles.

Born in September 2000, Harper boasts an impressive career trajectory marked by dedication, talent, and continuous improvement.

Having started his football odyssey at Bristol City, he swiftly climbed the youth ranks, showcasing his undeniable talent and earning a spot in the under-18s. His professional journey saw him sign his first contract in May 2019.

Harper's career has been characterized by several loan spells that contributed to his development as a player. After his stint with Gloucester City, he had brief, yet impactful appearances with Weston-super-Mare and Bath City.

In a significant career move in August 2021, Harper joined Chippenham Town and quickly caught the eyes of Eastleigh scouts. By September of the same year, he secured a permanent deal with National League side Eastleigh, where his performances solidified his position as a regular starter and a crucial team player.

June 2023 marked another milestone for the young defender as he penned a two-year deal with League One side Exeter City, with an option for an additional third year. This signing was made possible by the support of the 1931 Fund.

Vincent Harper's debut for Exeter City was nothing short of promising, as he stepped in for the injured Demetri Mitchell, contributing to a decisive 3-0 victory against Wycombe Wanderers.
