Super Eagles star Fisayo Dele-Bashiru faces a potential career-defining season at Lazio

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has received a major vote of confidence from new Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri ahead of the 2025/26 Serie A season.

The Super Eagles midfielder is expected to play a more prominent role for the Biancocelesti following Sarri’s arrival.

Sarri confident in Dele-Bashiru’s potential

Despite speculation that Dele-Bashiru could be offloaded this summer due to limited minutes last season, Sarri has made his admiration clear.

The former Chelsea and Juventus manager said, “Dele-Bashiru is a very strong guy who, if he manages to learn a few moves, can give us a big hand.”

That endorsement signals a fresh start for the 24-year-old, who joined Lazio from Turkish side Hatayspor in 2024.

Dele-Bashiru struggled for consistent minutes under former coach Marco Baroni but still contributed five goals and three assists in 29 appearances.

Now under Sarri’s more structured system, the midfielder is working closely with the squad in preseason to grasp the tactical demands.

New season, new opportunity for Super Eagles star

Lazio are preparing for the new campaign with preseason fixtures against Avellino, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Burnley, and Atromitos.

These matches could give Dele-Bashiru the platform to stake his claim for a starting role. The Serie A season kicks off on August 23rd, with Lazio beginning their journey a day later away to Como.

After an underwhelming season and a managerial change, Dele-Bashiru will be keen to use Sarri’s faith as motivation to prove his worth in midfield and cement his place both at club and international level.
